David Boston is the Program Director for the Uptime Institute's Site Uptime Network-North America. As Program Director of the 85-member consortium, Mr. Boston is responsible for planning, facilitation, benchmarking, abnormal incident reporting and analysis, and overall program success. Prior to serving in this role, he had ten years of hands-on experience with GTE Data Services in Tampa where he was responsible for operations and maintenance of a 100,000 ft2 data center and a 1.2 million ft2 office complex. He achieved multiple years of uninterrupted uptime on three occasions. This line manager perspective and experience enables Mr. Boston to optimize management, personnel, policy, and risk management issues to achieve uninterruptible site uptime.
In 1989, Mr. Boston conducted the first cost and performance benchmarking survey of 35 data centers spread across the USA. This survey was conducted via telephone and was updated with site visits in 1992. It is the progenitor of the benchmarking now done by the Site Uptime Network.
Mr. Boston holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design from University of Cincinnati. He has completed course work toward an MBA at the University of Tampa.
